Strongbond Bostic Adhesive - Shoe Industry
Properties: A high cost, heat activated adhesive based on a polychloroprene resin and quick drying solvents blends. It is not water soluble and is highly volatile.
Uses: Used in the shoe manufacture industry to bind leather to sole.
Colour: Colourless to slightly cloudy
Thinning and Mixing: No thinning required
Cleaning Solvent: Acetone
Drying time: 3 - 4 minutes @ 25oC, 50% RH
Coverage: 3 - 4m2/kg depending on rate of application and surface porosity
Application: By brush or comb trowel
Viscosity 95 ± 5 KU @ 25oC,
Specific gravity 0.84 ± 0.02 @ 25oC
Surface Preparation: Remove all oil, dirt, dust and moisture from both surfaces
User Instructions: Spread adhesive evenly over both surfaces using a comb trowel or brush, being more generous on porous surfaces and careful not to cover too large an area at once. Allow 3 - 4 minutes to dry (depending on weather conditions). Remoisturise by heat, and then bring the two surfaces together. Ensure accurate placement as it is impossible to reposition once bonded. Apply firm pressure, working from the centre to the edges to ensure complete bonding and avoid air locks.
Precautions: Store away from direct sunlight and keep container sealed at all times. Ensure good ventilation during use, avoid skin contact and wear the usual protective clothing.
